It: Welcome to Derry Releases Episode Two Early on HBO's Digital Service

Excitement is building for the horror series the Derry series, that's been receiving positive feedback and weaving in elements from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, the network declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for the spookiest night.

Schedule Change Details

Kicking off on Halloween night at midnight PT, episode two of the Derry prequel will premiere on HBO Max, before its linear broadcast. The remaining installments of the eight-episode season will be released on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max, building toward the season finale on Sunday, December 14.

Show Background

Set in Stephen King’s It universe, the new series borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while expanding on the setting established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One highlighted young characters facing terrifying threats, so it’s fitting that the series continues that tradition. Yet, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry proves it intended to escalate the fear, providing even more intense scares than the cinematic versions and setting a brutal tone for the rest of the season.

Premise and Ideas

Taking place in the 1960s, the program features a fresh cast of adults and children residing in a apparently peaceful community hiding a evil heart. This place operates on a brutal, periodic loop—characterized by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence returns every 27 years. Even though the series might sound like it skews too close to the movies on the surface, what sets apart the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—told from the eyes of both children and adults concurrently. Younger characters remain highly exposed to It's terror, but the adults don't escape dealing with their own nightmares stemming from local discrimination and hidden paranormal elements.

The series airs on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST.
