Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase of this nature with performances this poor.”
He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
