The Details Known About the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
A minimum of 16 lives perished and in excess of 40 were wounded when attackers shot at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.
In the latest update, authorities have confirmed the number of fatalities stands at 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Additionally, 42 people with injuries were transported to the hospital.
The victims are yet to be officially identified, but police believe their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Described as a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She told the events leading up to the attack, saying they were standing when the gunfire started. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she stated.
The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister expressed that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement read.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, according to reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, many remain receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he heard “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
